The one everyone asks for! A very attractive species with lush green stems which form dense clumps upto 1 meter across. They have slender foliage arranged in whorls at the nodes and very showy chestnut and white sheaths that clasp the culms. In the wild this species is found growing along seepages in mountain Fynbos in the Eastern and Western Cape. In the Northern Hemisphere it needs to be grown in free draining acid to neutral soil. Has proved hardy to about -8 ⁰C.
